What-is-japanese-script

What Are Japanese Scripts? umm, the tricky question isn't it? well well, let me tell you why ??
Japanese have 3 types of scripts :

  1. Hiragana
  2. Katakana
  3. Kanji
Surprised, Yes Japanese have 3 types of scripts and yes its tough to learn each one of them but with the practice your chances are high. You must be thinking if Japanese is that much tough then why she keeps saying to learn a foreign language and praise the Japanese language very much? Let me tell you the Japanese language has one of the toughest but great facts with it which is Japanese scripts which is divided into 3 Parts (see above with opened eyes, yes you got it) so, Japanese script is divided into 3 parts and each one of them is not that easy to learn but yes anyone can learn like I did and still struggling with the toughest part but yes I did and I am becoming good at it.

So the into was too much drama but its kind of worth it at the end of the article and you will leave with no queries or fewer queries in your mind.

Now I am going to tell you each scripts pros and cons and why should learn each one of them and how it will help you in learning the Japanese language:

HIRAGANA (ORIGINAL JAPANESE SCRIPT):
  • The word hiragana actually means "common" or "easy" kana.  Hiragana was originally called onnade or 'women's hand' because FEMALE usually wrote in Hiragana and Kanji (Chinese characters), Katakana (English words) used by MALE only.
  • Hiragana's difficulty level is too easy as it takes around 4 months to learn Hiragana or max 6 months because Its the easiest script for people to learn because of its sounds and easy to remember stroke.
  • Hiragana has ist cons and pros let me tell you why because in many places Japanese people don't use hiragana in Japanese script only yes its the original language of japan but they use kanji mostly for day to day usage of scripts and prefer kanji and hiragana both like in the ratio of 60:40.
  • Just like we have A to Z alphabet in English we have A, E, I, O, U in Japanese script and with every A, E, I, O, U we add K, R, M, N. let e give you an example :
Japanese-script

  • A line: A, I, E, O, U
  • Ka line: ka, ki, Ku, ke, ko
  • Ra line: Ra, Ri, Ru, Re, Ro

 KATAKANA ( for Foreign words

  1. The word katakana means "fragmentary kana", as the katakana characters are derived from components or fragments of more complex kanji.
  2. Katakana is used for foreign words like names, food names like orange, apple, and use for words like aeroplane etc.
  3. Can learn easily with the help of practice.
  4. In japan, it's not that often to use to katakana but yes in some cases they do use katakana Japanese scripts instead of kanji and hiragana.

You can get an idea from this chart how Japanese script katakana and hiragana looks like. See more
